Get Creative with Text Features

I don't know about you, but my students seem to groan when I mention text features. I fear it is from the reputation that comes with these dreaded informational text companions. Most, if not all, information text will contain text features. There are multiple different types of features to learn, and for the most part...they are not all that interesting.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

I was looking for a way to show good (quality) examples of text features to my students without boring them.

I headed to TeachersPayTeachers to see what kind of clipart I could find. I found the perfect set to go with the idea I had in mind. Fun for Learning has some great Text Feature clipart of you are looking for some!

After I purchased her clipart, I made an activity for my students that they have been talking about (and using) for weeks!

The instructions are simple really...take a look below.

Easy as that!

I wanted to include as many examples as I possibly could.

The students loved talking about each example and I love that they all match a certain theme!

I have my students keep these books in their folders so they can refer to them often. Such a valuable tool for reviewing for tests, or just when discussing text features!

I created a video showing how to put it together, feel free to go watch it!

So click the picture and go grab this resource! You and your students will love it!

Here are a few other resources (just click the pictures) to help teach text features!
